Why I joined Cornwall Humanists

As a member of the British Humanist Association with a Cornish address I received a letter informing me of the intention of setting up a local Humanist group, would I be interested? Of course I would. I jumped at the opportunity to meet, and talk with like minded people, free from fear of insulting their beliefs. It was also important to me to see non-religious funerals available to the non-religious of Cornwall. This has now been achieved. I also felt the need to try and redress the balance of the unfair power, privilege and great wealth aquired by the religious bodies, by fair means and foul, in the past, and how they impinge on our day-to-day life. We have come a long way over the years but still have a long way to go.

It is also rewarding to meet people who have found a sanctuary in the group having felt isolated because of their belief. (or should that be non-belief)
