Mary Fletcher
Mary Fletcher works as an artist in St Ives.
Mary has an exhibition of paintings and ceramics at St Ives Arts Club entitled "Greek Holiday". The exhibition will be open from 14th to the 27th July 2003 each day from 11am until 5pm, and admission will be free. The Arts Club is by the sea, on Westcott's Quay, between Porthminster Beach and the harbour. It is in an old building with a wooden facade, which has housed the club since it started in 1890. There are paintings by past members on the stairs.
Mary's paintings on display are all acrylic and include:
"Civilisation" - from drawings made at the temple
of Athene, Lindos, Rhodes
"Lindos Square" - with a small associated stoneware sculpture called
"Three on a Bench"
"Archangelos" - a village in Rhodes
"A carpet of Images" - inspired by images in Greek churches but
including modern life
Mary has ceramics now on show at Bark House Gallery, Alma Place, Newquay, and at Dick the Dog, Bread Street, Penzance, with paintings at the Lander Gallery, Lemon Street, Truro.
On Sunday 1st June 2003 there will be an informal discussion at St Ives Art Club, tea and biscuits provided, on the subject of "Barbara Hepworth". The aim is to encourage people to voice their own experience of her work and ideas. Non-members of the Art Club are welcome to attend - £1.50. Mary suggested this as the first of what may be regular discussions and she will host it.
